FAQs

What is speech therapy?

Speech therapy involves the assessment and treatment of individuals who experience difficulties associated with various aspects of communication (e.g. speaking, listening, reading and writing, social skills).

Who can benefit from speech therapy?

Individuals of all ages, from children to adults, can benefit from speech therapy if they are experiencing difficulties with speech, language, or communication.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual’s needs and goals, as well as the extent to which therapy targets are being implemented and supported in environments outside of the therapy space (e.g. home, school).

Do you offer telethealth services?

Yes, we offer video telehealth services. Telehealth services for speech therapy can benefit a child by providing flexible access to therapy from the comfort of their home, eliminating travel time and making it easier for families to fit sessions into their schedules. Through virtual platforms, Claire can use interactive tools, games, and visual aids to engage your child, making sessions more enjoyable and tailored to their needs.

Do you offer school or home visits?

Yes, at Bloom Speech Therapy we offer both school and home visits to ensure that therapy is accessible and convenient for you and your child. Therapy in natural environments (such as the home) can offer more opportunities for functional skill development as the speech pathologist can work with parents and/or teachers to practice therapy skills in everyday situations. This can support greater carryover of skills learned in session into other environments.

Do I need a referral?
No, a referral is not required to access our speech therapy services. You can contact us directly to schedule an appointment for your child. If you have any questions or need guidance on how to start the process, our team is here to assist you.

Do you accept NDIS Referrals?
Yes, Bloom Speech Therapy accepts NDIS referrals, however we are only able to accept NDIS Plan Managed or Self-Managed clients at this time.

Do you accept Medicare referrals?
Yes, we accept Medicare referrals through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) for eligible clients. If you have a Medicare plan that includes a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan or Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) plan or other applicable referrals, please consult with your GP and contact us to see how we can integrate these into your child’s therapy plan.
